A Bouchercon Moment

Sit with me, relax over a cup of coffee, as I talk over the Lines We Cross and a moment for Bouchercon.

As I’ve become more immersed in the world of mystery writers, I’ve discovered a wealth of conferences geared to both writers and readers. I attended Bouchercon (named after Anthony Boucher, mystery critic for The New York Times) in Calgary, Canada, in October. The fifteen hundred attendees were made up of mystery writers of great fame, not-so-famous writers like me, and lots of readers who simply love mysteries.

I sat in one session next to a woman who looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite place her until the end when she stood up. It was Sara Paretsky, the godmother of modern female detectives with her V.I. Warshawsky series. I have always been in awe of her groundbreaking work that opened up the publishing world to people like me. As I stood to talk with her, in that great fangirl moment, what came out of my mouth was not, “You are so skilled and talented and deserve every accolade bestowed upon you.” No, what I said was, “I really like your shoes!”

Oh boy. To her credit, she was gracious and told me they were very comfortable!

The Lines We Cross

Every year Bouchercon produces an anthology of mystery short stories. This year the theme was borders. My short story “When Pop Crossed the Border” was accepted. The editor, Olyn Fleming Ozick, wrote of it in the introduction:

When Pop Crossed the Border by Linda Norlander is a rich, touching, and thoughtful story with all the tension of a thriller, the gentle insights of a love story, and a longing gaze into the mysteries of the universe. Working to highlight the strengths and unique abilities of neurodiversity, it breaks one’s heart while shining light on beauty and happiness.

Thank you, Oly, for your kind words. The anthology is available through Amazon.

The Secret of Ravens Valley is recommended by The Mystery Review Crew!

"The Secret of Ravens Valley by Linda Norlander is a Liza and Mrs. Wilkins sleuthing mystery and a masterful political intrigue story, cloaked in a multifaceted murder mystery." -Mystery Review Crew

A Podcast with Florenza

I had a conversation with Florenza Lee, the podcaster, that was funny, touching, and serious. We lifted a glass of wine (admittedly, it was 9:00 in the morning, so it was a small glass) and talked about life and writing. Thank you, Florenza, for having me!

Reviews are Always Welcome

One of the best ways you can help me and other authors is to post a review on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Noble and other sites. Even if it’s simply a star rating, it gets the word out. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to review my books. I am forever grateful!

Have a wonderful fall.
All the best,

Linda
